Alexander Smail is an NCTJ-qualified multimedia journalist based in Edinburgh.
He has written news and features for a variety of publications including The Skinny, Clash, The Sunday Times, The Line of Best Fit, Loud & Quiet and Gold Flake Paint.
He also created and is the editor of Cocoon, a zine about the albums that helped people through the Covid-19 lockdowns – which across its two issues has raised almost £2000 for charity.
He presents a monthly radio discussion show for EHFM called Cocoon Radio – and also created an hour-long documentary for the station called Reopening Edinburgh, about how the city's music scene is recovering from the pandemic.
He is currently a Trends Writer for Edinburgh Live and Glasgow Live.
He has previously worked as an Editorial Assistant for The Skinny and a Digital Editor for Fest.
He graduated the University of Edinburgh with an honours degree in Medical Biology, and Glasgow Caledonian University with a masters in Multimedia Journalism, for which he was awarded a Distinction.
He was shortlisted for Young Journalist of the Year at the 2020 PPA Scottish Magazine Awards.
